Prototype in the works

I'm in the process of designing a prototype sheep...
and here is the head!

As you can see I'm surround by my favorite colors, and the new stuffing that I LOVE!! It's made out of recycled plastic bottles, it is so soft compared to what i have been using before, and for the same price! Only downfall is it's green, but meh I will work around it..

Here is a question for you.. where do you like to do your crafts... myself I love sitting on the floor and having a circle around me. I know where everything is!

I can do WHAT from my arm chair

Last night working upstairs clean, we came across "how to books" from the 60's
Adele and Don were having a blast going threw them, these books have everything, even on how to build a boat to an airplane.
So sitting with Adele looking at the books, we came across this.......

That's right you TO CAN TARGET SHOOT FROM YOUR ARMCHAIR
and it's perfectly SAFE...

We have know dubbed these books as the "RED-NECK how-to" books!

Salad Spinner + hair gel + paint

A link from a girlfriend was sent to me to give a try with my daughter as a craft time idea.. which involved hair gel ( a huge bottle for a $1 at the dollar store), small paper plates (again $1 from dollar store),  paint, and thanks to Alex, a salad spinner.
FIrst paint the hair gel onto the plate

As you can see it doesn't really matter how you place the paint, you just let your "mini me " have fun with paint. We also added sparkles to give it some "glimmer" effect.

Now let the laws of physics and gravity and have fun, spin that sucker fast or slow, no matter what you do in the end, to watch Adele's face see the outcome first ... priceless!

VOILA!!!

Our creations!

this was what was left at the end.

As you can see, clean up is minimum and because the paint was water based I just put the spinner in the sink and watched the water change to multiple colors.. and that was it!

We had a lot of fun with this project, and I can't wait to do it again, as now she wants to make masks with all the colors and her little imagination is going wild with ideas.

SO huge thank you to Alex for giving us the salad spinner!!!!

BAAAAAAA

I have been wanting to make one of these for awhile.. and finally sat down and figured out this thing called a "loop stitch".  First off.. I dislike this stitch!!! but I do like the outcome. This body is actually the second one I made. The first one was done so wrong that you could drive a car threw the holes that I was making. Once I got the hang of it this was the outcome.

I am thinking of making the body or of different colors.. I think it would look really cute.. any thoughts???

No sharks or five year olds

So at work we bought new camera equipment, to protect it we bought a pelican case. This is actually on the box that the case was in. I had to cut it out, because no one would have believed me that this is actually printed in the guarantee.... read the very last line....

Monster penguin

As stated in a previous post my OPPS using the wrong size of needle... well after rushing to Michaels after work, and seeing that the yarn that I was using was on SALE... HELLO happy dance... I continued making my creature!

And here is the outcome:

Yes that is an extra large coffee from McDonalds... I was just showing you something to scale the sucker with!
I still need to make him a scarf.. not sure what colors yet will suit his aloe colored skin...
I really like how he turned out thou.. I think he is pretty cute!

But then again that's just me... I may be a little biased!

Adele on Camera

Last weekend was my daughter's first ever ballet recital - she is 4 and a half.. and I brought home a video camera to capture this very important moment! While I was trying to figure the workings of this electronic device, I happen to show Adele that she could see what the camera was video taping at the same time.. and this is what she did:

I'm still laughing!

OPPS.. wrong needle

So I love this website " All about Ami " she is an amazing amigurami artist, and I follow her blog religiously! So when the other day she posted "Snuggles the penguin" I thought oh how cute, I can give that a try, pretty simple.

YAAAA so I start following her instructions, and as I'm crocheting this. .I'm thinking to myself.. this is a little big and I seem to be going threw my yarn pretty fast. The stitches are tight so what is going on. I continue on, while glancing on the floor seeing that the ball of yarn that I'm using is nearly gone.... what the heck.. look at the picture again, look at the picture of her holding the penguin... what the heck am I doing wrong.. so I decided to look at the beginning of the pattern again.. maybe give me some clue as to what happened.. YAAAA I'm an idiot is all i have to say........ WHYYYY well it turns out that not alllll amigurami designers use the convent 3.75mm or 4.25mm needle.. she uses 2.00mm... see where this is all going now people.. OH YEAH.. this is a great example of when using the exact same pattern but with a larger needle size you get........

THIS!

That's right.. an entire ball of yarn and I haven't even started to decrease yet!!!! SO after work I am off to Micheals to pick up another ball of this yarn so that I can finish this very LARGE penguin. Once I'm done with this project thou.. I will redo it, using the actual size of needle she has recommended for this project, just to give you a good indication on how just changing the needle size, will FOR SURE change your project size.

FYI my other half Don was sitting in his spot giggling at me.. as I was trying to find the solution to what was going on....

Crochet Week - Yarn selection

I have a wall of yarn.. I'm not kidding it's a wall ( and according to my mother she is sending me another 68 balls of yarn to add to the wall).  How do I pick my yarn, well I think about who is this for? and what fun colors can I use.. I have to admit I have some gorgeous pink yarn.. but HATE using it..  so it's sitts in the wall looking pretty and adored for afar.

Since I have a full time job, I like to bring yarn with me to work, so I can crochet on my breaks.. here is the color selection for today. I always have white with me just in case I decided to make a bear or a creature of some sort.  I love bright colors, and enjoy combining them with dark.

I have pretty much figured out that I love handicraft yarn. You can make anything out of this stuff!

So this is how I pick what I'm going to use.. and at time it's the yarn that predicts what I'm going to make!!!

something crawled onto my laptop

The octopuses continue!  So because of the massive windstorm that occurred,  and returning home, I continued on my journey on making octopuses.  I have been having fun making these for my sister.. and far from being done! I am happy how these creatures are turning out!
I have hats I really need to make for the hospital.. I have a bag full but need more to give!
More apple hats on the way!

Crochet week - Sketches!

So I wake up this morning all prepared to get working on my my blog, POWER out. Here on Vancouver Island we're dealing with hurricane like winds. So my morning has been getting to work then having to drive back to Victoria, in 100km winds.. what does this have to do with crochet.. in all honesty NOTHING.. but while I was at work in the dark, I started to crochet a circle.. yay flashlights..
Now for sketches.. well my daughter once again decided she was going to help.. I am wanting to make weird Easter eggs. I have sketched out a few designs.. nothing spectacular.. and I'm going threw magazines, and books for ideas.... need to find that one thing that will make me go.. THAT's it.. that's what I want to make!

Plankton

After making the cyclops butterfly, someone suggested that I try to make Plankton from Spongebob Square Pants.
The challenge was set and first the sketch.. pretty simple really, it was more trying to figure out what size he was going to be.

So in the end.. here is what was created..

He turned out not to bad for making him without a pattern, if I say so myself.. what you can't see in the picture, is he has thumbs!

Onto the next project!

and voila! - Butterfly Cyclops

And here we go! the finished creature..  I wasn't sure how I was liking this little guy.. until I put the antennas on him.. amazing how something so simple can just make the project!

I won't be able to give this to Adele until tomorrow, it's my weekend with her... YAY.. and get to give this to her then.... I hope she likes it.
